Forest talks...

Like a scattered rough hair
it is a zigzag forest without fear
but seems like a combed hair
in between the green tress

The huts with sleep of solace
are being swallowed by corporates,
only to be replaced and recreated
with modern-artificial-commercial ethnic art
for the privileged gated communities.
Bamboo baskets in posh MNC stores
pour incessant rain of dollars

Now, forest is not about , not about,
Bamboo tress and wild creatures.
It is not about beautiful birds,
not even the hamlets of innocent and ignorant tribals.

Now, forest is filled with sounds of harsh bullets,
where, the god of forest is murdered by Dynamites, and
the goddess of forest is raped by the Khakis.

Forest is standing lonely and desperately,
in front of the courts for weightless natural justice.
Hapless Kids of hamlet are fighting hungrily,
for the left over biryani packets.

The land upon which they are standing,
is being grabbed in-front of their eyes.
Though the lives of hamlets are at crossroads,
forest still awakens at night for GREEN dreams.

Wonderful poem! A reflection of our times...

"Now, forest is filled with sounds of harsh bullets,
where, the god of forest is murdered by Dynamites, and
the goddess of forest is raped by the Khakis."

Very apt words... infact each and every word of this poem resonates...

We are living in sad and dangerous times... where greed has overtaken everything else. But just you wait for the backlash from mother nature...

Mahesh Aadhya Kalal said...

@ Roshmi...
Yea, am waiting for the backlash...
I am ready to submit myself before the anger of nature...
Let the human race get wiped out from Earth's surface...
Thanks for the response buddy :)

sad, touching words, most wonderfully woven into a poem...

Thanks for the words buddy and we need much introspection on the issue at a broader level...

Raghav said...

Here, most of us are neglecting the fact that it took over 4 billion years for the intelligent life forms like humans to emerge on this planet, and it’s only during the past 200,000 years, through the reign of human existence the planet’s balance is shattered like anything.

And if we think that Earth will be left in chaos, and we are endangering other species, we are sucking out every possible natural resource and slowly but surely making the Earth inhabitable to any kind of life form, we are totally wrong. It is “us” who will perish, Earth has a seen a million catastrophes like these, it has withstood, millions of years of ice ages, billions of asteroid impacts, worst possible conditions that humans can ever imagine, the planet works in a completely different astronomical timelines, and during those times, we will not survive, if we do not change our attitude towards Mother Earth, we will perish, and this time there will be no remains….

Whatever we’ve done and doing right now is nothing compared to what Earth has endured over these billions of years.

Earth and life recovered, sometimes even benefited, from every other major catastrophe. It's this ability to deal with catastrophe that's a truly special thing about Earth.

Earth can cope with anything we can throw at it. We could clear all the jungles, but a jungle can re-grow over a few thousand years. We could burn all Earth's fossil fuels, flooding the atmosphere with carbon dioxide, but even then it would take the planet only a million years or so for the atmosphere to recover.

Even the animals we're wiping out will eventually be replaced by others equally rich in diversity, as the relentless work of evolution continues. It's only a question of time. The Earth will be just fine. That's not to say that the rapid changes we're forcing on Earth don't matter. That's because humans operate on a different timescale. We've evolved to live in the world as it is now.

So, in changing this world, we're altering the very environment that has allowed the human race to thrive. We could be creating conditions that threaten the long-term survival of our civilization.

So, all this stuff about saving planet Earth, well, that's not the problem.

Planet Earth doesn't need saving.

Earth is a great survivor. It's not the planet we should be worrying about,

it's us.

(Mahesh, we should make everyone watch Documentaries like Home and BBC’s Earth: the Power of the Planet, such an eye openers.)

Yea, and i want it to wipe us the humans soon :)

@Brenda...
Thanks for the pat and in India we lack proper substantial voices for the real social issues... We just write and do nothing.

Mahesh Aadhya Kalal said...

@ Hary...

All i want to see is the extinction of capitalism and corporate driven consumerism so that natural justice keeps running on the track , though it is Utopian view.
Wisdom lies in adaptation rather than exploitation and Adaptation includes fighting too.
Thanks for the response anyways.

@ Siddhesh ...
Sir, rather than what we think, what is important is the impact and consequences of commercialization under the garb of globalization where Greed dominates Need with the help of corporate consumerism .
May be it all depends on which side you are standing.

Will write more on this in my next probably. :)

I liked this one. I too hate deforestation.

a sad truth this.. the green is going fast from our lovely planet, and though we can stop it, we don't put much effort in to it...

geeta said...

If we plant a tree we add a little oxygen to the environment and increase few of our breaths...are we favouring the planet Earth or are we favouring ourselves...??
Yes you are right the natural GREEN is converting into dream with the passage of time ...
No angel will land from heaven to make this world a better place to live in ,instead each one of us should take the initiatives on our own small levels otherwise in next few years we will be counted in numbers as we are counting the Tigers today...
Sorry for ranting here ,I did not even think whether its the apt place to do so...
You brought out the harsh reality so wonderfully...

Sandhya said...

Beautifully written, loved how you weaved this poem to raise awareness.
Keep Writing.

Mahesh Aadhya Kalal said...

@ Tumblewords..
thanks:)

@ Leo..

it is not just the green , it is all about the exploitation of native tribals by the government backed corporates who squeeze every resource of forest without any conscience ...

@ Geeta...
I never support development at the support of innocent people's life.

The kind of commercialization talked above is what ppl say is development aka India shining...a must for a developing country but worst part is they have no idea about what they are loosing/almost gtg extinct.....now a days i hardly see ants,squirrels,crows,grasshoppers..in my village..4gt abt the urban areas...:)

Blasphemous Aesthete said...

The poem was pretty straight forward and pointed as a dagger.

The situation is true, but in a deaf world of today, I'd term it as Blasphemy.
Only few of us would pay any heed to it. Everybody's crying of increasing heat in summer and everyone watches with hopeful eyes as the monsoons just mock at us and drift away. Amidst all worries and cries of selfish mankind, we have forgotten to hear to Mother nature's wailing.

Without mother, there would be no son.

Mahesh Aadhya Kalal said...

@ Geeta***...
I never support development at the cost of innocent people's life.
Thanks buddy.

@ Sas...
Thats the apt response. I agree with you. Yes, we have disturbed the equilibrium out of which we have evolved and we have no other choice other than facing the consequences of our foolish and selfish deeds now.

We need balanced, equitable and sustainable development

Mahesh Aadhya Kalal said...

@ Someone...

Yes, we have only readings and writings but no actions...
We are deaf by our consumerist lifestyles and individualistic mindset.
We need Green deeds (http://maheshisms.blogspot.com/2010/01/green-deeds.html)

I have just returned from Meghalaya and over thr thr are no outsiders who are creating the imbalance or destruction! It is a rich gifted natural land which shld be treasured. But the locals are denuding the forests with such rapidity there that thr may be no trees left nomore very soon:(

How do you get the owners of this land to become more responsible:(

Mahesh Aadhya Kalal said...

@ Mee,

Hi,
Am quite happy with you rational , valid, relevant and objective question which holds weight-age in larger perspective. Please keep on coming with such feedback so that wisdomism can have much more constructive analysis on such social issues.

I agree with your observation . Yes, it is happening all over india.
Here, the battle is not between persons, but systems. Yes. My perspective is(am not disagreeing with you) ....

Why would these people cut off these tress if there is no demand which has been accelerated due to the obsession with consumerist lifestyle fulled by globalisation and corporatism. ? Who is the actual consumer of these forest products? Who is forcing them indirectly to cut off their own roots? haven't we heard about POSCO in Orissa?

How come an illiterate farmer selling his land for a SEZ will be knowing the consequences? He realizes only when the compensation is made in peanuts.

Who is dragging them in to the game of exploitation of natural resources ? Whos greed is this? Isnt it the corporate culture where only numbers and statistics matters?

BTW, why we have been neglecting North East states since decades, though we proclaim "Hamara Bharath Mahaan"?

Could you please read my post "http://maheshisms.blogspot.com/2010/05/whack-you-or-me.html"
where i have made the distinction which may throw few more insights into the topic.

Please come back with your queries , if you have any, after reading my reply.
Thanks again. Wisdomism welcomes your feedback/constructive criticism/response.
